Where to eat and drink in Isla Canela – Recommended restaurants – My Regular Spot – Chiringuito Bombadill

chiringuito-bombadillChiringuito Bombadill is my beacon on the horizon as I return home from a long walk along the sand with the kids. Just a few minutes stroll from our apartment and really an oasis when its hot and you just need to sit under an umbrella, chill and enjoy some great food.

The kids keep burning off their energy playing in the sand and popping back to the table for food while we make sure we have a few cold drinks and lots of delicious sea food!! One not to miss all year round!

Where to eat and drink in Isla Canela – Gourmet goodness – Small and Friendly

Where to eat and drink in Isla Canela – Gourmet goodness – Small and Friendly

restaurante-a3-ayamonteYet another little restaurant that would be so very easy to miss unless you go looking for it! Big isn’t always the best and this little gem is proves that and is well worth a visit for some tapas dishes with a twist. Set just along a small road from the fish market in Ayamonte you will find A3. Blink and you would miss it, or might not even pass by as it is slightly off the main tourist trail. A gem of a restaurant and cheap too!

If you need to book a taxi for a late night out just let me know but there is a taxi rank right at the end of this road on the plaza which is quite handy.

Where to eat and drink in Isla Canela – Cultural dishes – Snail Festival!!

Where to eat and drink in Isla Canela – Cultural dishes – Snail Festival!!

07/01/2016

Snails, one of Portugal’s many culinary delicacies, are the star of a popular festival that will be held in Castro Marim on the first three days of July.

The town’s Festival Internacional do Caracol will take place at Colina do Revelim de Santo António and feature “the best snails made in the Algarve and Portugal” but also other traditional confections from Spain, France and Morocco.

Also promised is a “rich and diversified” musical and cultural programme of entertainment, delicious regional sweets and the whole lot set against stunning views over the Guadiana River and Sapal nature reserve.

Organised by Castro Marim council, the event hopes to establish the town as “the Algarve’s best destination to enjoy snail dishes” while also promoting “traditional products, cuisine and Mediterranean culture”.

Where to eat and drink in Isla Canela – Recommended restaurants – Where the locals go – La Rana

Where to eat and drink in Isla Canela – Recommended restaurants – Where the locals go – La Rana

la-rana-isla-canelaIf someone hadn’t told me about La Rana I am not sure if I would have stumbled upon it! It is set just off a slip road along side the fishing boats where the locals live.

I first discovered it around ten years ago when I went for dinner with neighbours at Isla Canela. It was a favourite spots of which they visited often and were keen to share with me.

Being close to the water I would recommend some insect spray if you get bitten easily, but that is my only suggestion other than suggesting you go along and trying some lovely local dished!

La Rana is around 5 minutes away by car from the apartment. You can get there by bus if you hop off at the golf course and walk up to the next roundabout. You will see the slip road here just before the little bridge. On foot it would take around 20 minutes or so,

Where to eat and drink in Isla Canela – Favorite cafes – Comme Chez Toi

Where to eat and drink in Isla Canela – Favorite cafes – Comme Chez Toi

Untitled-designThere are a few spots for a good ice cream on Isla Canela beach, which I have mentioned before, BUT when your in Ayamonte the beach can seem quite a long way away, especially when it is getting hot!

How about escaping the sunshine and grabbing a cone while in town? Comme Chez Toi is a favourite with my girls and is a good first stop after getting off the ferry from Portugal.

Where to eat and drink in Isla Canela – Terraces with a view – Visit While You Can

Where to eat and drink in Isla Canela – Terraces with a view – Visit While You Can

06/03/2016
Soon this lovely chiringuito will be relocating so visit while you can. Being so close to the shoreline is quite dramatic but also has it’s perils for this little business. So to save another winters battering they will be relocating.

My tip is to stop by at sunset and enjoy hearing the waves over a cold drink, while you can! Simply turn right at our front gates and walk along the beach for around 5 minutes. You can’t really miss it!
